Build your portfolio security by security.

Alongside the portfolio based on predefined criteria, werin lets you build a portfolio from securities you pick yourself, analyse its history and then track its performance.

1. Access and principle

From your portfolio list, the “Add a portfolio” button offers two paths: “Portfolio based on predefined criteria”, where the werin algorithm selects securities according to your criteria, and “Portfolio built from individual securities”, where you choose the securities yourself.

What werin calculates

werin rebuilds the history of the portfolio made of the chosen securities, compares it with a benchmark index and computes the same indicators as for a criteria-based portfolio: performance, Jensen’s alpha, bar charts and composition.

Number of securities

The maximum number of securities depends on your subscription and your credits; it is shown in the form.

Credits

Credit consumption follows the same logic as for a portfolio based on predefined criteria.

2. Universes and currency

First choose where to look for securities, then the currency used for the calculations.

Selection universes

United States (S&P 500), Europe (STOXX Europe 600), France (CAC All-Tradable) and China (CSI 300). You can tick several: their securities are then offered together.

Searching for securities

Type at least 2 characters: company name, ISIN or RIC code.

Securities listed in several universes

A given security appears only once. werin gives priority to the universe whose currency matches the calculation currency, and to France before Europe.

Calculation currency

USD, CNY or EUR. Each security’s prices are converted through the euro, using the exchange rate of each date.

3. Weightings

Three ways to split the portfolio between the chosen securities (N is the number of securities).

Size weighting

Weights proportional to each security’s market capitalisation, capped by the maximum weight per security.

Maximum weight per security

For size weighting only. 1.15/N by default; it must lie between 1/N and 1.

Equal weighting

Every security has the same weight, i.e. 1/N.

Weighting by number of shares

You enter the number of shares of each security and the weights follow. This mode matches a portfolio you actually hold.

4. Period and transaction costs

The estimation period and transaction costs are set as for a portfolio based on predefined criteria.

Start date

The estimation period starts at the earliest on the first date shared by all chosen securities; this date is suggested once the securities are selected.

End date

The most recent available date.

Transaction costs

“Include transaction costs” unticked: no cost is applied. Ticked: the percentage entered applies if provided; otherwise the werin brokerage grid for securities from a single universe, or 0.5% of traded amounts for securities from several universes.

5. Results

The results page follows that of a portfolio based on predefined criteria, with a few differences.

Benchmark index

A composite index built from the rebuilt indices of each universe, weighted by each universe’s share of your portfolio.

No comparison portfolio

Since the securities are chosen freely, there is no opposition portfolio: the charts compare your portfolio with the index only.

Summary

The criteria summary shows the weighting mode and the calculation currency. Composition prices are expressed in that currency.

Create from these criteria

Reopens the form pre-filled with the same selection, so you can adjust it.

6. Saving, purchase and tracking

Saving the portfolio records an actual purchase of the securities at the latest available prices.

Weighting by number of shares

Saving directly records the purchase of the numbers of shares entered.

Size weighting or equal weighting

An investment page suggests, for the amount to invest, the number of each security that matches the portfolio weights. You can change these numbers; transaction costs, the total invested and uninvested cash are recalculated before you confirm.

Amount invested

Value of the securities bought, transaction costs included. Uninvested cash is not added back to the portfolio.

Tracking

The portfolio is then updated every day: value, IRR over the actual investment period and Base 100 at the purchase date. There is no revision: the composition stays as you chose it.
